Sunday Sermon: Arrow of Financial Crisis

Arrow of Financial Crisis

“1. And there was a great outcry of the people and their wives against their Jewish brethren.

2. For there were those who said, “We, our sons, and our daughters are many; therefore let us get grain, that we may eat and live.”

3. There were also some who said, “We have mortgaged our lands and vineyards and houses, that we might buy grain because of the famine.”

4. There were also those who said, “We have borrowed money for the king’s tax on our lands and vineyards.

5. Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children; and indeed we are forcing our sons and our daughters to be slaves, and some of our daughters have been brought into slavery. It is not in our power to redeem them, for other men have our lands and vineyards.””
— Nehemiah 5:1-5 (NKJV)
“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”
— Mathew 6:24 (NKJV)
“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. As it is written: “He has dispersed abroad, He has given to the poor; His righteousness endures forever.”
— 2 Corinthians 9:8-9 (NKJV)
“The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it.”
— Proverbs 10:22 (NKJV)

Sunday Sermon: Arrow of Discouragement

“Meanwhile, the people in Judah said, “The strength of the laborers is giving out, and there is so much rubble that we cannot rebuild the wall.”

Also our enemies said, “Before they know it or see us, we will be right there among them and will kill them and put an end to the work.”

Then the Jews who lived near them came and told us ten times over, “Wherever you turn, they will attack us.””
— Nehemiah 4:10-12 (NIV)

Reasons of Discouragement

1. Strength of the laborers is failing (Job 4:3-7)

2. There is so much rubbish left (frustration).

3. We are not able to build the wall (fear of failure).

4. Adversaries say you will not complete the work (secret scheme of enemies).

5. The discouragement of the fellow brothers.

Sunday Sermon: Arrow of Conspiracy

Arrow of Conspiracy

“But when Sanballat, Tobiah, the Arabs, the Ammonites and the people of Ashdod heard that the repairs to Jerusalem’s walls had gone ahead and that the gaps were being closed, they were very angry. They all plotted together to come and fight against Jerusalem and stir up trouble against it.”
— Nehemiah 4:7-8 (NIV)

Sunday Sermon: Arrow of Reproach

Arrow of Reproach

“I answered them by saying, “The God of heaven will give us success. We his servants will start rebuilding, but as for you, you have no share in Jerusalem or any claim or historic right to it.”

Sunday Sermon: House of the Lord

House of the Lord

“1. I rejoiced with those who said to me,
“Let us go to the house of the Lord.”

2. Our feet are standing
in your gates, Jerusalem.

3. Jerusalem is built like a city
that is closely compacted together.

4. That is where the tribes go up—
the tribes of the Lord—
to praise the name of the Lord
according to the statute given to Israel.

5. There stand the thrones for judgment,
the thrones of the house of David.

6. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
“May those who love you be secure.

7. May there be peace within your walls
and security within your citadels.”
8. For the sake of my family and friends,
I will say, “Peace be within you.”

9. For the sake of the house of the Lord our God,
I will seek your prosperity.”
— Psalm 122 (NIV)
